The son of perditon as described in Thessalonians declares himself to be God. To put it plainly it will be satan manifested in human flesh. Our Lord Jesus is the temple of God and as we are joined to Him, through faith and baptism into Him, we become part of that temple referred to as God's eternal dwelling. Jesus referred to His body as the (naos) temple that would be destroyed and He would raise it back up in 3 days. The greek word used for this reference to the body as a temple (naos) is different than the word Jesus used, to say the earthly temple (hieron) in Jerusalem would be destroyed. Paul in Thessalonians used the greek word for temple that was also used to refer to our bodies (naos). So if satan appears in a human body would he not be desecrating the temple of God? Wouldn't he be standing where he ought not? Our bodies were made by the hand of God for us to dwell in, with God. Not for satan to live in and proclaim himself to be God.
2 Thessalonians 2:4-7
He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's (naos) temple, proclaiming himself to be God. Don't you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.Michael the arch angel is restraining satan from doing this until the time God has determined.
Jude 1:9
But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"Why would satan want the body of Moses? satan's desire is to steal what belongs to God and he knows that at some point God will allow him to manifest himself in human form to test all who dwell on the earth.
As far as putting an end to the daily sacrifices, prophesied by Daniel, many scriptures refer to us being, new covenant, living sacrifices and to offer sacrifices of praise to our God. So if satan living in a human body decrees it illegal and punishable by death to honor and worship Jesus in any form he would be putting an end to the daily sacrifice. So there does not need to be a physical temple in the earthly city for these things to be accomplished.
I am persuaded by many verses that God will not allow there to be another physical temple in the earthly city or to re-institute the sacrificing of bulls and goats, this itself would be an abomination. Jesus is the reality of what the first and resurrected second temple symbolized and the final sacrifice and atonement for sins. That is why God has not allowed the earthly city to build a temple (for themselves) because the eternal reality has been established in Christ Jesus.
God began replacing the old covenant from the inside out, the same way He changes us. When Jesus died on the cross the curtain was torn in two signifying that God has established the true Holy of Holies in heaven and the earthly shadow has now become a common, unnecessary thing. Next He put and end to the entire temple and not one stone remains. Last on the list of things to do is eliminate earthly Jerusalem which Jesus said would happen just prior to His second coming to make way for the bride of Christ, the only true Holy City built by God... The resurrected bodies of the saints, Gods eternal dwelling.
Hebrews 8:13
By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear. All the earthly types and shadows associated with the first covenant are being replaced by the eternal things of the new covenant.
Hebrews 9:8-10
The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still standing. This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper. They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings--external regulations applying until the time of the new order. The great tribulation can and will begin without a physical temple. satan can fulfill all that is written of him without a temple built by the hands of men. His manifestation is the abomination which causes the desolation of all who follow him. All who follow this person will never be inhabited by God, they will be a desolation for all eternity.
