The Lord Jesus came to this earth to end the old and establish the new. By His death burial and resurrection, many things changed. The Mosaic covenant was ended and the new eternal covenant which was promised to Abraham was established. The new and better covenant is based on better promises and has only two commandments. These next verses describe by relationship how the covenant of Moses ended and the promise to Abraham was established. Romans 7:1-6
Do you not know, brothers for I am speaking to men who know the law that the law has authority over a man only as long as He lives? For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage. So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man. So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God. For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death. But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.Hebrews 7:11-22
If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the law was given to the people), why was there still need for another priest to come—one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law. He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. For it is declared:
"You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."
The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. (LOVE)
And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, but He became a priest with an oath when God said to him:
"The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: 'You are a priest forever.'
Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.Hebrews 9:16,17
For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.Jesus death brought an end to the old and established the new covenant which was proclaimed by Jesus, the prophets and the apostles He chose. Matthew 22:37-40
And He said to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.'
"This is the great and foremost commandment.
"The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'
"on these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophets". The partakers of this new covenant must obey these two commandments only! The first is to LOVE Jesus as Lord with all your mind your heart and your soul. Believing in Him and confessing Him as Lord. By being buried with Him in baptism and being raised with Him from baptism we are joined in Him. Because we are in Him, we dwell with Him, where He is, in heaven. If anyone is in Christ, he dwells with us in heaven, making him our neighbor. The second command is like the first. Anyone who has obeyed the first commandment, is in Christ, with us. We dwell together as one in the Lord Jesus Christ. If I love you, I love me. If I hate you, I am hating myself.
Over and over in the new testament these two commandments are repeated for our instruction by the Lord Jesus and the apostles of our Lord. As well they also refute fleshly obediance to the former commandments. These two commandments are the Law of Christ.
John 15:10-17
If you obey MY COMMANDS, you will remain in my love. In the same way, I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in His love. "HERE IS MY COMMAND. Love each other, just as I have loved you. No one has greater love than the one who gives his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command."HERE IS MY COMMAND. Love each other."1 John 3:23
And this is His command: (1) to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, (2) and to love one another as he commanded us.Romans 13:10
Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.1 Corinthians 13:13
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is loveGalatians 5:14
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."Galatians 6:2
Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the LAW OF CHRIST.1 John 4:21
And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.1 John 5:1-2
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves the Son as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.1 Peter 1:8
and though you have not seen Him,[Jesus] you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,1 Peter 1:22
Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,
