Matthew 1:21
" And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name YAHSHUA/JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."The name Jesus isn't just a name to refer to the Son of God. In the Hebrew culture, which was established by God, every name had meaning and purpose. Abram is a wonderful example recorded for us, as Abrams life was a symbolic representation of Gods plan for His creation . The name Abram means Father of Height which is symbolic of our heavenly Father, God himself . It was under this name that Abram had Ishmael by his bond-servant Hagar. As referenced in Galatians 4;21-31 God had children through His bond-servant earthly Jerusalem with the Hebrew name Yahweh or the Greek translation Jehovah. When the time came for God to bring to pass the promise which He had made to Abram He did not change Abrams name but He did add to Abrams name so that it would reflect what Abram was to become.
Genisis 18:5... " No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham." Abraham means father of a multitude. In the same way God did not change His name. When the promise of salvation was manifested to the world His name became Jesus to reflect what He has now become. YAHSHUA means YAHWEHS'salvation. No longer is He just God the creator, He is the God who redeems His people. When we respond to God in the name of Jesus, we acknowledge His plan of redemption. When you call on the name Jesus you are calling for Gods' deliverance, that comes through His Son bearing His name, Jesus.
Acts 4:12
" Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."Proclaiming the name of Jesus to the world is a declaration of Gods' salvation. God is not an eternal redeemer by any other name. We cannot be saved by our own works so Jehovah God has become our redeemer in the name of JESUS. The bible declares that anyone who believes and confesses this name, will be saved. John 3:18
" He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."The Lord Jesus in Matthew 28:19 Commands His disciples, saying, " Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
We know that the Son of Gods name is Jesus. In what name did the disciples who heard this command baptize believers?
Acts 2:38
" And Peter said to them, repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins."Acts 8:16
"they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus."Acts 10:48
" And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ."Acts 19:5
" And when they heard this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus."
As recorded in these 4 baptisms, they were baptized in the name of Jesus. I would have to say that these recorded baptisms confirm that JESUS is God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirits name. When we respond to God in the name Jesus we are responding to God's salvation.
Is there any other scriptural evidence to support this belief?
As stated in reference to the Son of God
Hebrews 2:4
" as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they."As the scriptures say, the Son has inherited His name. This leads me to believe that the Son of God was named after His Father.
How does the Lord Jesus feel about this belief?
John 5:43
Jesus said, " I have come in my Father's name and you do not receive Me."John 17:6
" I have manifested Your name to the men whom you have given Me out of the world."John 17:11,12
" Holy Father, keep them in Thy name, the name which thou hast given Me, While I was with them, I was keeping them in Thy name which Thou hast given me."John 17:26
" and I have made Thy name known to them, and will make it known."1 John 2:23
" Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also."The scriptures tell us that God the Father and Son have the redemptive name of God, which is JESUS. Jesus also commanded His disciples to baptize in the name of the Holy Spirit. Did they obey this command by baptizing in the name of Jesus? John 14:26
" But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I have said to you,"So the disciples of Christ knowing these things baptized in Jesus name. Fulfilling the command to baptize in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit's name.
Philippians 2;9-10
" Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."As we can see this name Jesus is above every name, period! And this name Jesus is to be honored and worshiped by all.
The apostle John was reminded of this on his visit to heaven as he by mistake fell at the feet of one of Gods angels to worship him.
Revelation 19:10
" And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, see that you do no do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."1 John 5:13
" These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life."
